Our Impact

We helped Agnostiq develop infrastructure to transition their open-source solution into a provider-owned resource system, Covalent Cloud.
  1. Build the backend to integrate Agnostiq’s SDK with cloud providers
  2. Created a foundation for easy adoption of high-performance compute workflows
  3. Enabled more users to benefit from their open-source platform

Agnostiq helps startups and enterprises unlock the power of advanced computing.

Agnostiq is a leader in providing programmatic workflow management systems for users who require high-performance computing (HPC) resources to run intricate pieces of code. With their open-source SDK, users can provide their own compute resources to manage and schedule these jobs.

THE VISION
Observing a new opportunity, Agnostiq aimed to provide an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) platform, where users could harness their cloud provider and resources in addition to the open-source SDK.

WHY LAZER?
Agnostiq chose to partner with Lazer to develop new backend infrastructure that aligned with their IaaS business model and prioritized frictionless integration with new technologies. With lots on their roadmap, we drew on our infrastructure and cloud experience to quickly build their foundation.

Approach

Allowing users to leverage Agnostiq’s cloud-based resources

The new IaaS approach benefits users by allowing them to use Agnostiq’s cloud resources instead of their own.

To make this a reality, we utilized FastAPI to build REST APIs with CRUD operations that integrated with Agnostiq’s existing SDK, and then implemented this with AWS services like Batch, Lambda, and Elastic Load Balancer to provision resources on demand.

Approach

Robust infrastructure for scalable management

With a long-term vision in mind, we designed database models and infrastructure for anticipated growth in users and their computational needs.

We leveraged the flexibility of tools like FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and Docker to handle user management at scale. As the platform developed, Terraform was also integrated to codify and automate provisioning of cloud infrastructure.

Approach

Security and access control for customers

Using Amazon's Cognito service, we built out comprehensive user authentication and authorization flows.

The new system provides management for permissions and roles that can be completed while safeguarding the infrastructure and user data across the entire stack.

Conclusion
Since launching Covalent Cloud, Agnostiq has been acquired by business AI provider DataRobot.

With Agnostiq’s continued growth and success, we’re proud to have been brought in to help them achieve their vision and improve the user experience of their computing platform. We’re excited to see them continue to impact AI and HPC development as part of the Data Robot family.
